Your Shopify store isn't showing up on Google — the six real causes, in the order they cost you money
Most advice starts with "submit your sitemap". That is almost never the problem. Here are the six causes we actually find when a store gets no search traffic, and how to test each one yourself in about a minute.
1. Google has no reason to rank your product page
A product page with a 10-character title and no description has nothing to match a search against. Google will still index it, but it will rank it below every competitor that describes the same product properly.
2. The price is invisible to Google
On many Shopify themes the price is rendered by JavaScript. Google's crawler sees the page without it, so your listing cannot show a price line while competitors do. Fewer clicks, same ranking.
3. Product structured data is missing
Product markup is what turns a blue link into a listing with price, availability and rating. An audit of 9,510 live storefronts found 96.4% carried none on the homepage — the same stores then wonder why their listings look bare.
4. Images carry no alt text
Images without alt text are invisible to Google Images — which is how a lot of product discovery actually happens for physical goods. It is also the cheapest fix on this list.
5. Google never crawled the page
A brand new store, or one whose sitemap was never submitted, can sit unindexed for weeks. This is the one case where Search Console is the right tool: check Pages → "Discovered, currently not indexed".
6. You are indexed but nobody searches that phrase
The most common outcome of all: the page ranks, but for a phrase no customer types. Store owners write "premium artisan leather goods"; buyers search "leather card holder". This is a wording problem, not a technical one.
Enter your store URL and get the measured result for checks 1–4 on the live page: title length, meta description, price visibility, product markup, alt text. No email required to see the result.

This page is not a promise that fixing all six will rank you first. It tells you which of them are actually broken, so you stop paying people to fix the ones that aren't. If you want the full list of issues across your store, ranked by revenue impact, that is the paid report — what's included.
